Excellence in Leadership Development
LEAD (an acronym for Leadership, Ethics, Achievement, Development) is a part of Sigma Nu’s membership education program. While learning about the history, heritage, and values of Sigma Nu, participants in LEAD experience activities and educational sessions led by chapter officers, local alumni, and General Fraternity staff members on topics such as project leadership, group decision making, and principle-centered leadership. Leadership skill development, styles of leadership, conflict resolution, and financial responsibility are additional topics of discussion in the LEAD Program. These programs assist students developing ethical leadership practices. Sigma Nu prepares members for life after college by providing them with the leadership qualities and skills that employers continually seek. Pursuing excellence in ethical leadership development is one way that Sigma Nu contributes positively to the campus and the community and offers benefits to each member.
Excellence in Scholastic Achievement
The goal of every college student should be to graduate. Fraternity experiences and involvement should not in any way take away from the opportunity of a student to succeed academically. Rather, the Fraternity should complement the classroom experience in order for members to become truly well-rounded individuals. In Sigma Nu, the academic success of each member is valued and encouraged. Through time-management workshops, scholastic programs, and academic assistance from other campus resources, Sigma Nu stresses the academic achievement and success of each member. Sigma Nu asks each member, “Where is the honor in failing to go to class, not doing assigned work, or not meeting the expectations of your family, friends and most importantly yourself?” Individuals of honor committed to excellence in scholastics are true men of Sigma Nu.
Excellence in Social Activities
Formals, date parties, social exchanges with sororities, and other social events occur each year at Sigma Nu. The purpose of attending a college or university is to increase an education and to ultimately graduate, but a college life without any social activity and involvement will leave a large gap in the overall college experience. Sigma Nu seeks to provide social opportunities for its members to participate in a variety of events and to acquire skills for all types of social situations. Sigma Nu’s pursuit of excellence carries into the planning of social activities in order to provide a safe, fun, and friendly environment.
Excellence in Honor
Sigma Nu stands firm against hazing. Opposition to hazing was one of the reasons Sigma Nu was founded and we will not tolerate it. Sigma Nu seeks individuals who will not condone any hazing activity. We expect individuals to speak out if any such activity occurs, especially if done to them. We want all of our candidates to have the courage to not allow themselves to be hazed. Hazing and hazers have no place in Sigma Nu.
Excellence Every Day
Throughout the history of Sigma Nu, many goals have been met and numerous successes attained due to a commitment to the pursuit of excellence. The pursuit of excellence continues for Sigma Nu as new goals emerge and greater challenges are sought daily. Past achievements are not sufficient for Sigma Nus. Sigma Nus continue pursuing excellence in every aspect of their lives to last beyond the college years. Hopkins, Quarles and Riley (the three founders) took their stand and committed themselves to the pursuit of excellence. Now make your stand!
